First off, I was worried about what we were going to get. I knew we selected a simple, no frills place because we were on a budget. From past experience in Europe given the same criteria, I was already traumatized from our Paris hotel experience. So we plugged in the same criteria and it was leaps and bounds AHHHHHMAZing compared to what I was bracing myself for. We selected based on these top 4 criteria, safety, location, cleanliness, and budget. The place was just outside all the busy touristy areas of Kyoto but walkable. So it was quieter than being in the midst. It felt very safe, and it was very, very, very clean. The bathroom looked like no one had ever used it before. And the tatami mats felt clean and fresh. I had no qualms about lying down on them. And very much within our budget. It might have helped the price that we weren't in the midst of the more heavily touristy areas, but like I said, completely walkable. We were in Gion within a few blocks. Don't expect room service, or any extras like that. But we didn't lack amenities (self-service). The amenities were very good quality, so were the pajamas provided. The staff hours are limited but that was no problem, since your key will let you in the building. Also, they were super friendly and spoke English. Helped us find good restaurants and helped us orient ourselves to Kyoto. Loved the tatami area in the room where we lounged, and where my daughter slept on the futon. As with most of Japan, rooms are generally smaller than in the U.S., but we (3 of us) did not feel cramped at all. There was ample space for our luggage to open and to lounge. Very good use of limited space.

The location was fantastic - so many great restaurants and attractions within walking distance. We even saw a geisha passing by one evening when we were leaving the hotel. The room was spacious with good amenities. We were lucky to always find that the washing machine was free when we went to use it, but this was usually during the middle of the day while our baby napped so perhaps that might not be the case for people wanting to wash in the evening. The machine was efficient and while I was a bit worried about the drying function my clothes were fine. The staff were very friendly and helpful with lots of knowledge about Kyoto and everything from restaurant recommendations to providing umbrellas when it looked like it might rain.

Amazing hotel in a great location. We got the room B with a queen size bed - it was super spacious and the bed was really comfortable. They provide a nespresso machine and 2 coffee/2 tea bags. Room temperature is really nice, good aircon. Good shower pressure. Great room/toilet lighting. Since there isn’t room service everyday they provide enough towels in the bathroom. Toiletries are just great - they give the hotel a luxury touch that we were not expecting! They also offer water, a microwave and coin laundry machines on the 2nd floor. It is quite easy to get public transportation around the hotel, and it is also a walking distance to some main Kyoto attractions. Overall it was one of the best hotels we have stayed at!

This was our third trip to Kyoto, staying in a different property each time. Rinn Kitagomon was by far our favourite. The location is superb, it’s a great balance of being in a super quiet neighbourhood but within easy walking distance of Gion, the centre of Kyoto, Kiyomizu Dera Temple and more. The room was large with a comfortable double bed and tatami floor area. Whilst there was no view from our lovely air conditioned room, it didn’t matter as we were there to rest after exploring the beautiful city. Everything was spotlessly clean, there was a Nespresso machine and access to ice, cold water and laundry facilities. Above all the staff were super helpful, Chiharu went above and beyond to help us.

Rinn Kitagomon is in a perfect place to see Kyoto. We had a great stay. The staff at the hotel is Wonderful. They were always so helpful, kind and professional. There are so many sights that are perfectly walkable from the hotel. You'll be in an area filled with incredible small streets that you simply MUST walk on. There are plenty of restaurants and stores all around. And yet, we were never bothered by any noise from the street. I did see my first Real Geisha leaving a building in front of the hotel - after she'd had her makeup done. She looked spectacular. What a moment. I was so thrilled I couldn't move...!
